TPS40170-EP: TPS40170-EP crank simulator

Part Number: TPS40170-EP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS40170, LM5145

Cluster_Cranking_Sheet-1.pdf We have modified the circuit as TI team guided us. kinldy check the modified circuit and provide your feeback. FYR please check the previous post for further infprmation.

  • Hello Anbarasan

    1. No need for the 3.3 Ohm on the low-side gate (R52) - change to 0 Ohms.
    2. R46 is 0 Ohms from high-side FET gate to GND - this should be removed (C116 is also not required).
    3. R45 feeding the VIN pin can be 0 Ohm a a 1 Ohm may affect high-side sensing.
    4. C133 47pF from FB to GND should not be required (it causes phase lag).
    5. Check compensation with the TPS40170 quickstart calculator (need to the ESR of the output caps). The LM5145 quickstart is even better here (same control loop)

#1-4 items are all fixed, but it looks like #5 item has not been checked. Please download the calculator here and check your compensation component selections  https://www.ti.com/lit/zip/sluc263 \

And here are what I found additionally.

    • R60 is shorting MOSFET gate to ground. Please change it to 10kOhm
    • C129 is unnecessary
    • Loop compensation components are not connected to FB.

  • Hi Eric Lee,

Thank you for your suggestions, It was very helpful to us.

As per your feedback we have modified the circuit.

Please go through the attached updated circuit one time and let us know if any changes needed in that.

We planned to manufacture the proto PCB, please help us to correct the major issues.

    Thanks and Regards,

  • Hello Anbarasan I found only one.

    • R52 is 3.3 ohm now. My recommendation is to try 0 ohm at first, then increase the value up to 3.3ohm later if required

  • Hi Eric Lee,

Thank you, We will do the changes, If required then we will correct it (R52).

  • Hello Anbarasan

I will close this thread . If you have an issue, please feel free to open a new thread or reopen this thread.
