TPS55340: Can TPS55340 be used for biasing photo diodes requiring high voltage ?

Part Number: TPS55340
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMR64010

Hi,

Below is my schematic arround TPS55340 which i took design from webbench

I was a little skeptical when i read below

can i use it for biasing photo diodes ? if not kindly suggest one that can be used for 12V to 25V conversion.

  • Hello Shyam Daram,

Why did make this sentence you being sceptical on this device? What other parameters are important for your design? What is the minimum and maximum current you have on the load?

    Best regards,
    Brigitte

  • typically when you bias photodiode with this dcdc, is the output in off condition while there is no load ?

typical photo diode consumption will be very much negligible, may be arround 2-3uA

im just using this device for reverse biasing photodiode, if there is no minimum consumption will device keep output voltage off ? can it be used for very low load conditions ?

In a nutshell do you suggest this dcdc for biasing photodiodes requiring bias voltage up to 25V

If this device is not suitable kindly suggest one

  • Hello Shyam Daram,

In general boost converter keep the output voltage independent of the load and therefore as well if there is almost no load or no load.

But if the load current is such low, this device is possibly not the best solution as it is optimized for a lot higher loads, so the quiescent current is not very low.

You might as well have a look at LMR64010 for example.

    Best regards,
    Brigitte
