TPS61096A: Shutdown Output level at about 2V

Part Number: TPS61096A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV61046A

Hi,

We integrated this part onto our circuit and found that the shutdown voltage is 2V, and when I connect a resister across, the current flows, and it stays at 2V.

May I know what is the issue? It is documented that EN = VIN will start the enable the, and ground it will shutdown.

Looking for help urgently. Is there pin compatible replacement part available that provides shutdown function?

I just read that someone experience same issue here.     Looking for your advice urgently.

  • TI engineer is working on this request. He will reply as soon as possible.
  • hi
it is not an issue, but normal behavior of this device. when the device shutdown, there is still rectify diode from VIN to VOUT. you can see this diode in the page 10 of the datasheet. so the output voltage will be VIN minus diode voltage.

the issue in the link is not the same as your observation. it had been fixed in the A-version device TPS61096A.

There is no pin compatible device. may i know the problem caused 2-V output voltage at shutdown?
  • Thanks Jasper for your clarification

I don't understand why EN pin that is NOT able to switch off chipset completely is named as ENable in the first place. Please advise how to switch off this output completely.

We have already designed our custom PCB based on this part, and there is need to switch off the output completely by toggling the EN pin, so as to conserve power consumption for our sensors. We know that other parts in TI family, by namely it as EN, means it will switch off the output completely.

    Please advise.

    Cheers.

  • the internal circuit of TPS61096A and the external feedback resistors switch off when EN pin is low. however, there is a rectifier diode from SW to VOUT for a boost converter topology. that is why a voltage appear at VOUT at EN = L.

you need a boost converter specially design with fully disconnection function, such as TLV61046A. but the Iq of TLV61046A is much higher than TPS61096A.

What is input voltage, output voltage and output current of this application?
