TPS24742: TPS24742 - does not work

Part Number: TPS24742
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25942A

Hello. I developed the scheme Hotswap then ORing (TPS24742). When the power supply is 12 volts, the power supply delivers a current of 5 amps and starts to warm the Hotswap mosfet. At the same time there is no voltage at the output of the circuit. Please see my calculations in the Hot Swap design calculator tools.TPS2474x Design Calculator_RevB.xlsx

  • Sorry, in my test board the Schottky diode is incorrectly installed. Everything worked.

  • Hi Nik,

Can you share your application details and max. system current. If it is a 5A requirement, pls look at TPS25942A integrated hot-swap solution.

    Best Regards,
    Rakesh
  • Hello Rakesh.

The maximum current is 60 A. Application: hot Swap then ORing.

Voltage VMAIN 12 V, voltage VAUX 14 V. At the moment of hot swap, the voltage Vout can drop to 4 V and the system shuts down, at a load current of 3 A and the capacity of the capacitors is 480 μF. At 4 V, the system power sources are turned off. The OV pin off the AUX is configured for a 10 V off the MAIN power-on voltage, ENOR and ENHS off the MAIN are set to 9V. The graphs shows the moment when Vmain turns off. I see the delay in the output of the HGATE, which leads to a drop in the voltage Vout. I want to clarify, Gate Charge of my FET is 220 nC at 10 V, CSD16415 has a Gate Charge 45 nC, I guess this is the reason for the delays when hot swap.
