SK-AM62A-LP: SK-AM62A-LP: Real time core usecase

Part Number: SK-AM62A-LP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH, SYSCONFIG,

Hello Team,

We are going to use AM62A34 processor and in that, we want to use PWM, UART and SPI through RT core. Can we use it ? Is there any table available which shows which peripheral can be used through RT core?

Thanks,
Jaimin

  • Hello Jaimin,

Thanks for reaching out to Texas Instruments E2E support forum.

Our domain expert is out today. Please expect a reply in one or two business days.

    Regards,

    Tushar

  • Hello Jaimin,

    I have noted your question.

Before I proceed further, I want to understand the following.

Can we use it ? Is there any table available which shows which peripheral can be used through RT core?

From which documentation or TI link you came across real time core, what does real time core means here?

I am not seeing any mentioning of the same in the TRM.

It would be nice if you can clarify this, so that I can proceed further.

    Looking forward to your response.

    Regards,

    Vaibhav

  • Can we use it ? Is there any table available which shows which peripheral can be used through RT core?

Real time core mean real-time processing cores (Cortex®- R5F).

  • Hello Jaimin,

Thanks for your response. I understood that you are talking about R5F cores.

I want to be more precise now, so are we looking at MCU R5F cores or WKUP R5F cores?

    Looking forward to your response.

    Regards,

    Vaibhav

  • Hello Vaibhav,

Currently we are focusing in MCU R5F core. Can I know what is difference between MCU R5Fcore and WKUP R5F core ?

    Thanks.

  • Hello Jaimin,

I would recommend you to read through the TRM to find more about this.

A basic difference would be that MCU R5 core application can be directly loaded onto the cores and debugged, but when it comes to WKUP R5 core application, then we need to flash the appimage of this application via UART Uniflash Python tool. This is documented here: https://software-dl.ti.com/mcu-plus-sdk/esd/AM62AX/09_02_00_38/exports/docs/api_guide_am62ax/DEVELOP_AND_DEBUG_DMR5.html

Currently we are focusing in MCU R5F core.

Now that you have mentioned MCU R5F core, allow me one and a half hour to provide you with a brief response here.

    Regards,

    Vaibhav

  • Hello Jaimin,

When it comes to MCU R5F, then all the peripheral which have a prefix MCU_peripheralName can be used through the MCU_R5F core. Attached is a sample MCU peripheral from SysConfig.

If its about WKUP R5F, then same principle applies, peripherals having prefix as WKUP_peripheralName can be used. Attached is a sample WKUP peripheral from SysConfig.

Apart from this you can also access the WKUP and MAIN domain peripherals from MCU Domain, and you can find the guide on this here: https://software-dl.ti.com/mcu-plus-sdk/esd/AM62AX/09_02_00_38/exports/docs/api_guide_am62ax/MAIN_DOMAIN_PERIPHERAL_FROM_MCU.html

Let me know any follow up questions from your end.

    Looking forward to your response.

    Regards,

    Vaibhav

  • We checked as per above information and seems UART and SPI are accessible through R5 MCU. We don't want to use R5 WakeUP MCU.

The link given in above comment has no information regarding PWM. Does that mean AM62A34 can not operate PWM through R5 MCU?

    Thanks

  • Hello Jaimin,

    Yes your assumption is correct.

We currently do not support PWM but if you look at the connectivity table and interrupt table from the TRM you can find the connection is possible.

    Regards,

    Vaibhav

  • Thanks for above information.

We have requirement to perform PWM pulse on/off based on interrupt received on R5 core. So we are thinking to access PWM from R5 core.

As per above information MCU R5 has access of EPWM via RAT. I am not much aware about RAT but at this point just want to confirm if we can drive PWM through R5 core or not.

    Thanks

  • Hello Jaimin,

    Thanks for your response.

Please allow me sometime to follow up with you.

    Regards,

    Vaibhav

  • Hello Vaibhav,

Any update on above point? We want to make sure whether we can access PWM from R5 core or not.

    Thanks

  • Hello Jaimin,

As per TRM EPWM interrupts are routed to MCU R5F core and no issues if you are trying to access them from MCU R5F

And, when you want to access these registers, it is not possible to access directly from MCU R5F .

Instead of directly reading, you have to configure RAT and read through RAT.

Typically RAT is used to address mapping logic. In the Main domain, the EPWM registers can be directly accessed at the memory location of 0x23000000 and the same location may not be accessed from the MCU R5F. Now you need to convert this memory to RAT memory. That's all.

    Regards,

    S.Anil.

As per your suggestion, we have checked the "RAT "data in the "syscfg" file for the project and checked, but still we get a failure in firmware loading during the Linux board boot-up time.

I am also attaching our "linker.cmd" file for your reference.

    8171.linker.zip

Please check above details and let us know if missed any steps or data in above details. Also provide appropriate RAT details for our EVK:- SK-AM62A-LP to run this "EPWM Duty Cycle" example.

    Thanks,

  • Hello Jaimin,

I can look at your code and will provide reply by today.

    Regards,

    S.Anil.

  • Hi Swargam Anil,

Ok, please look into it and provide details on it.

We have followed below Link for this "EPWM Duty Cycle" example on our EVK (SK-AM62A-LP) (For your reference only)

    Thanks,

  • Hello Jaimin,

I am really confused you are expecting to work EPWM modules on MCU R5F core.

But, the example you are loading from Linux is available on DM R5F core.

Even if you are loading the example from Linux, it should not throw  an error. We need to check.

So, I assume that all your queries are cleared related to access to the EPWM from the MCU R5F Core. .

Can you please close this thread and open new thread for new queries ?

So, mixing all information in to one thread may create confusion for future readers .

Coming to your question again, you need to run EPM on MCU R5F and this example is not available on MUC+SDK.

The simple trick is that an example is available on DM R5F and you need to port  the same thing in the MCU R5F Application.

Open new threads for new queries .

    Regards,

    S. Anil.
