TDA4VH-Q1: Steps to boot EVM using UART

Hi TI,
My PC uses Ubuntu 20.04. So I am using docker container with Ubuntu v22.04 and installed the RTOS SDK and Linux SDK v09_02_00 for the J784S4 EVM I am trying to bring up.

After I installed Linux SDK and RTOS SDK, I have set the DIP switches to UART boot mode as specified in EVM Setup for J7784S4 here - https://software-dl.ti.com/jacinto7/esd/processor-sdk-rtos-j784s4/09_02_00_05/exports/docs/psdk_rtos/docs/user_guide/evm_setup_j784s4.html#j784s4-common-processor-board.

I have installed one QPEnet board to the EVM as well.

I have connected the DISPLAY_PORT0 to a monitor. (Nothing yet)
I have connected the Main UART to my PC running the docker container Ubuntu v22.04 where the SDKs are installed.
I have connected the Main Domain Ethernet (CPSW2G) port to my pc using a USB to Eth Adapter.

Then I ran the setup.sh as per Processer SDK RTOS J784S4 09_02_00 Getting Started instructions.

When I reach the minicom setup, I don't see anything at all.

I am sure I am missing something, but there is no Quick Start Guide for J784S4 EVM I could find to verify if what I am doing is correct.

Can you please help find the gap?
Is there a guide (step by step) that explains how to boot the board using UART?

I guess there is no default boot loader runs in this never flashed evm to run the xmodem receive? Maybe flashed SD card is the only way to boot it up the first time?

I used the SD Card that came with EVM and I am able to boot to linux and also able to get into U-Boot. I never so far successful with UART based boot.

Hi Vignesh

In uart boot mode MCU uart or wakeup uart need to be used to transfer the images see the Boot mode section of the TRM.

Yes I see in TRM section 4.6.9 UART Bootloader Operation that mentions to use MCU uart or wake up uart.

As per this pic, the MCU UART (MCU R5F UART) is Port 1 of #2 which is on the left of the Main UART. Is this the one I should use? Or Am I looking at the wrong one?

Which one if wakeup uart? This is not marked in this EVM setup section.

TRM do not have step by step instructions to achieve this. Is there any user guide that explains this with screen shots and showing the physical connections?

As per TRM, I should start seeing pings ("CCCCC") from the EVM on the MCU UART?
Please also let me know which boot file / binary I should be Txing through xmodem from my host (SDK is instailled in the docker container) to the EVM?

step 1:
* make sure the console should show a sequence of CCC being printed

 <pdk>/pdk_j784s4_09_02_00_30/packages/ti/build$ make BOARD=j784s4_evm CORE=mcu1_0 sbl_uart_img  DISABLE_RECURSE_DEPS=no -sj6
use xmodem to load the  sbl_uart_img_mcu1_0_release.tiimage image

 step2:
 /home/karthikeyansaravanan/ti/ti-processor-sdk-rtos-j784s4-evm-09_02_00_05/pdk_j784s4_09_02_00_30/packages/ti/drv/sciclient/soc/V6/tifs.bin
 use xmodem to load the tifs.bin image

step 3:
<pdk>/pdk_j784s4_09_02_00_30/packages/ti/build$make BOARD=j784s4_evm CORE=mcu1_0 GPIO_Baremetal_LedBlink_TestApp DISABLE_RECURSE_DEPS=no -sj6
 use xmodem to load the app image
