Linux/AM5728: PCIe clock output from ljcb_clk pins

Part Number: AM5728

Tool/software: Linux

Hi TI team,
I'm test PCIe function on AM5728 IDK using Prebuilt image.
When I removeed C438 and C439, the PCie function is working fine on J22(PCIe slot)

Why AM5728 PCIe doesn't need external Clock ?

How to setup PCIe PHY clock from ljcb_clk pin?
I think the external clock can Improve PCIe eye diagram.

Prebuilt image: PROCESSOR-SDK-LINUX-AM57X 03.02.00.05
EVM: AM572x IDK (1.3B)

  • Hi Biser,

I meant is that how to configure the PHY clock from ACSPCIE Rx mode?

  • Can you please explain in more details what exactly you are doing, why do you have to remove C438 and C439, and what do you mean by "the PCie function is working fine on J22(PCIe slot)"?
  • Hi Biser,

    I inserted PCie-to-SATA Controller card (Marvell 88SE9172) into PCie slot (J22) on AM572x IDK(1.3B).

When I used the "lspci" command, I could see the following messages. (see the attached file for details)

When I removed C438 and C439 and used the "lspci" command, I could still see the messages.

  • Hi Rex,

How to configure the PHY clock from ACSPCIE (Rx mode)?

  • Hi, Will,

You can program CTRL_CORE_SMA_SW_6 register, bit [17:16]. Please refer to AM572x TRM (SPRUHZ6H) for details.

  • Hi Rex
    thanks for you suggestion!
I config registers in kernel as following:
    devmem2 0x4a003c14
    devmem2 0x4a003c14 w 0x20000
    devmem2 0x4a00821c
    devmem2 0x4a00821c w 0x181

But How to prove the PCIE PHY clock from ACSPCIE?
  • Hi, Will,

I assume you realize that once the external clock is disabled by removing c438 and c439, the PCIe SS won't get clock source from ACSPCIE even if it is configured in Rx mode.

To verify the ACSPCIE in Rx mode, the internal clock needs to be disabled. Our RTOS team was able to verify ACSPCIE in Rx mode using PCIe example in PDK package in RTOS ProcSDK.
