OMAP-L138: Other equivalent devices to OMAP-L138 LCDK

Part Number: OMAP-L138
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TVP5147

Hello,

I tried to use the OMAP-L138 LCDK board, and I got a lot of trouble using it.

I would like to know if there's a device/board which has the same processing possibilities, but easier to work with (I got a lot of trouble to burn my applications on the external NAND flash, and I would like to use a device which has an internal flash memory, such that the application doesn't erase itself after reset)

Of course, it would be great if the built-in Starterware application would suit the device.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks a lot,

Armand

  • Hi,

Other devices like OMAP-L138 (with arm and dsp) are:
    Sitara -> AM57x variants
    Keystone -> K2H/K2E/K2G
However, they are more expensive, as they provide much more processing power.

You can have a look at the DaVinci devices -> DM814x, DM8127 and AM387x

Or you can use this forum to ask the exact technical question and work through your issue.

    Best Regards,

  • Thanks a lot,
I would like to know, though, if there is a device of this capacity which contains an internal flash memory, such that the image burned on the device will run automatically at boot without any issue ( I'm experiencing some booting issues with the OMAP-L138, see thread : e2e.ti.com/.../633889 ), and that's why I would like to switch.

    Armand
  • It is also important that the chip contains a DSP sub system.
  • Hi Armand
For DSP cores like C5000, C6000 (c67x, c674x and c66x) we do not have any devices with on chip flash.

On chip flash is supported on our microcontroller offerings.
Depending on what kind of application space you are in , please see if the c2000 product family with CLA and other real time support can be a solution.

The product portfolio for c2000 can be found here
    e2e.ti.com/.../

If there are things in the offering that is of interest, you can also put follow up questions on c2000 family on the following e2e forum

  • Thanks for your answer.
These controllers are not fullfilling my requirements though. I would need the following requirements:
    - I need an evaluation board based on the controller ( like the OMAP L138 LCDK for the OMAP-L138)
    - The Board must have an analog input ( I paid attention that the analog entry on the DM8127 CSK board is a video output connector)
    - Requirements of the controller chip itself: at least ARM+DSP device, 6xUART, 4xSPI, 3xI2C, Sofware compatible with the C674x family, several video input/output channels.
The DaVinci 8127 seems to fill my requirements, but onfortunately, as I said, the board does not have a video composite input connector and a fine-tuned video decoder (such as the TVP5147 present on the OMAP-L138 LCDK board)
    Hence:
    - Is there an other controller than the DM8127 that would fulfill the requirements ?
    - Otherwise, is there an other board with an analog video input (composite port) based on the DM8127 (or another DaVinci controller)
    Thanks a lot,
    Armand
  • Hi Armand,

I am not aware of other controllers, besides the once I listed above.

Could you start a new thread describing your problem with OMAP-L138? Maybe it's something that can be resolved ..

    Best Regards,
    Yordan
  • Hi Yordan,
I already opened a thread and I'm awaiting a response for several days.
Maybe could you ask the team in charge to take another look ?

I described in my last post precisely the different steps I performed and what's the problem.
Thanks a lot for your help,
    Armand
  • I just did. I am closing this thread for now.
