66AK2H06: Connection of EVMK2H and TMDXEVMPCI

Hi,

I have a question about EVMK2H and AMC-to-PCIe edge connector adapter(TMDXEVMPCI).
I know TMDXEVMPCI is for Keystone1 EVM and can't directly connect to EVMK2H.

AMC edge connector pin assignment of EVMK2H and Keystone1 EVM are same.
And it seem that format of AMC edge connector are same.

So, if I take off the heatsink and fan from the EVMK2H,
I guess TMDXEVMPCI can be connected to EVMK2H AMC edge connector.
Is it possible?

In the following E2E post,
TI employee said that TMDXEVMPCI is not compatible to EVMK2H.
And it seems that he is trying to say that RTM connector which are mounted next to
AMC edge connector will interfere the TMDXEVMPCI connection.

I checked the dimension of TMDXEVMPCI which I got from eInfochip.
As I compared with EVMK2H, I guess I could connect with TMDXEVMPCI.

If it is possible to connect EVMK2H and TMDXEVMPCI physically,
are there any other problem?

Hi,

Looking at K2H EVM TRM (wfcache.advantech.com/.../XTCIEVMK2X_Technical_Reference_Manual_Rev1_0.pdf) Table 3. 2: AMC Edge Connector AND TMS320C6678 EVM TRM: (wfcache.advantech.com/.../TMDSEVM6678L_Technical_Reference_Manual_2V01_0320.pdf) Table 3.3: AMC Edge Connector, you can see that the pin mapping is the same.

If you're sure that you can manage the mechanical connection of the AMC-to-PCI adapter, you should be able to connect it to the K2H EVM.
NOTE: Just to be sure, crosscheck the electrical specifications of the interfaces in TMS320C6678 & 66AK2H12 datasheets to be sure that you won't have compatibility issues (as far as I know they should be the same).

I am also looping the design team to elaborate if needed.

The K2H EVM cannot be mounted onto the TMDXEVMPCI carrier board. The heatsink and fan are in the way. If you remove these from the EVM, the device will overheat. There are other solutions. You can use an AMC to SMA board like the one from - SMA-AMC Ultra 9000. Then you can use a cable like those available from SAMTEC such as from the PCRF series which has an edge card on one end and SMA cables on the other.

removing the heatsink & fan from the EVM are not recommended.

I understand that device will overheat by removing the heat sink and fan
but do you mean it will overheat even if running only Single C66x, A15 core and PCIe?

Because the board you introduced me seems quite expensive compare to TMXEVMPCI,
are there any other solutions?

We cannot guarantee that the SoC will work reliably, when you remove the heatsink.

Leakage current will be significant, even with most cores and IP idle. The K2H must be operated with a sufficient thermal dissipation solution to prevent it from overheating.
