CCS/TMS320C5517: Porting from CCS 2 (ancient) to CCSv9, also changing processors

Our customer has an old design based on the TMS320VC5402 that is now EOL. They are porting their product to the recommended replacement, TMS320C5517A.

Back in the early 2000's when they originally designed the product, they bought an (expensive) license for CCS v2. Fortunately these days, CCS is free, and they are trying to port their early '54xx code to current '55yy processor.

1. Do we have any good resources to help in this porting effort? (I understand some of the peripherals are different)

2. I hear there is some sort of program (MASM 55?) that will port 54xx code to 55xx platform. Is this true? Where is this tool?

3. Do we still have access to the old original compiler and can it be incorporated into the current Eclipse Environment?

Hi Steve,

I can't comment on #1 & #2 (I'll move this thread to the appropriate forum) but regarding #3, note that the last version of CCS to support C54x was CCSv5.5.

I searched and found this document. It may help in migrating the code to c55.

In the document, it mentions MASM55 which is the C55 Assembler. That should be included in the compiler tool chain. There are some documentation on it, but they are not TI documents.

The umich.edu document you refer to is SPRU280, now revision I as of 2011: http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/spru280i/spru280i.pdf

I'll see if these documents are helpful to the customer, but let's not close this thread just yet.
