Compiler/DRA829V: Questions about PCIe on DRA829 EVM

Part Number: DRA829V
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRA829,

Tool/software: TI C/C++ Compiler

My question is

When we plug the Realtek demo board into two PCIe slot, we would get the different results.

The software on SD card is the factory settings and the boot log is as attachment.

According to packet sniffing for PCIe, in slot 1, our demo board has started to transmit the TS2 packets when TI DRA829 EVM still transmit the TS1 packet.

The reason is maybe timeout or another. However in slot 2, it didn't happen.

So, we are confused by the results. Could anyone give me some advice?

In Slot 1:

We didn't get any information about PCIe client (Realtek demo board).

  • Jia Hong,

    Thanks for the logfile. I saw that both SERDES0 and SERDES1 did not come up. SERDES2 did linked. As discussed in the email, could you try a SSD in slot 1, and see if the PHY links.

    Regards

    Jian

  • Hi Jian,

    I am so sorry to tell you the information.
    We only have M.2 PCIe SSD presently, but can't use it to plug into the platform. We would try to find out the PCIe SSD.
    Any other suggestions?

    By the way, could you get anything according to our information of packet sniffing?

    =====
    In slot 1, our demo board has started to transmit the TS2 packets when TI DRA829 EVM still transmit the TS1 packet.
    =====

  • Jia Hong,

    I use off-shelf M.2 -> PCI 1x or 4x adapters. But no rush to test as I think I might also saw link training failing on my slot 1 today, did not have time to confirm. So it may not be a unique issue for network cards.

    Could you try a few experiment on your end:

    in device tree file:

    /board-support/linux-5.4.40+gitAUTOINC+66cf445b76-g66cf445b76/arch/arm64/boot/dts/ti/k3-j721e-main.dtsi

    pcie0_rc: pcie@2900000 {
    compatible = "ti,j721e-pcie-host";
    reg = <0x00 0x02900000 0x00 0x1000>,
    <0x00 0x02907000 0x00 0x400>,
    <0x00 0x0d000000 0x00 0x00800000>,
    <0x00 0x10000000 0x00 0x00001000>;
    reg-names = "intd_cfg", "user_cfg", "reg", "cfg";
    ti,syscon-pcie-ctrl = <&pcie0_ctrl>;
    max-link-speed = <3>;
    num-lanes = <2>;

    change above two lines to:

    max-link-speed = <2>;
    num-lanes = <1>;

    Then rebuild the dtb and see if the card get linked. Theoretically these should not matter, but I wanted to force the Slot 1 to 1 lane as it was supposed to be.

    let me know if you run into any issues.

    thanks

    jian

  • Jia Hong,

    can you confirm if your SOM board is E6 or E7? I have a E7 and my Slot 1 is not working, but my colleague's board with the E6 is working fine.

    Jian

  • Hi Jian,

    Does it mean that the SOM board is E7?
    If yes, What else can we do about this issue?

    Jia Hong

  • Jia Hong,

    Yes you have a E7 also. But I checked hardware changes from E6->E7, there was nothing related to PCIe0. I am requesting E6 SOM module and need to compare and confirm hardware cause.

    will update you once I have any progress.

    Jian

  • Jia Hong,

    I was doing some other tests with SDK7.1 and noticed both slots are working on my EVM. If you are still having issues with PCie0, can you refresh this thread?

    Thanks
    Jian
