OMAP-L132 direct connection to ADS802

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAP-L132, ADS802, OMAPL138, OMAP-L138

Hi,

My customer would like to know if OMAP-L132 support a direct connection to the ADS802?

Thanks

Marcus

  • Hi Marcus,

OMAPL132 offers a subset of the features available on OMAPL138. So, please refer to below link, in which the list of

ADCs supported by OMAPL-138 is given.

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/OMAP-L1x8_Complementary_Products#Analog-to-Digital_Converters

But the specified "ADS802" is not mentioned.

TI offers a wide range of ADCs with different sampling rates. please refer to http://www.ti.com/lsds/ti/analog/dataconverters/adc_dac_quick_search.page to check for compatibilty.

    Regards,

    Shankari.

  • Hi Shankari,

Can you share some thoughts on why the ADS802 is not included as a compatible device? Is it because it is 5-V logic, or because the interface is not supported (i.e. would it be supported with a level shifter)?

    Thanks,

    Antonio

  • Hi Antonio,

    Suggestion from the hardware team:-

OMAP-L132 doesn't have Parallel Port (uPP) peripheral that support parallel interface for ADC,DAC & FPGA as a part of OMAP-L138.

The ADC ADS802 suggested by you has parallel interface. So, there is no way it can be interfaced with OMAP-L132 unless you've SPI or I2C based I/O ex-pander which requires 5V to 3.3V logic conversion.

And also, adding so many components to  interface this ADC (AD808) and make it work is cumbersome. The better option would be to go for SPI or I2C based ADC with 3.3V logic level interface.

    Regards,

    Shankari.
