LMX2594

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMX2594, LMX2820

Hello Derek Payne,

Whether I use the LMX2820 evaluation board or your preferred LMX2594 evaluation board, could you please indicate which detector to use for measuring the S21 parameter in magnitude?

The ultimate goal is to create a Mini VNA (Vector Network Analyzer) using the mentioned evaluation boards and the corresponding detection section.

Here are the specifications for the finished product:

Mini_SNA (Scalar Network Analyzer)

BASIC CONFIGURATION:

• F_START = 880 MHz
• F_STOP = 1155 MHzLMX2594LMX2594
• SPAN = 1155-880 = 275 MHz
• Dynamic = -18 to -60 dB

• Sweep Time = 1 to 2 ms (to sweep through the Span)
• Sweep Points = 500

• 2 x Ports to measure the S21 module of the resonator

• 1 x analog output (4-20 mA);
• 2 x Digital Input (0-24 Vdc);
• 1 x Ethernet port

Do you know of a company, preferably in Italy, that can design the described Mini_SNA based on the chosen evaluation boards?
Best regards, Luca Mucchi

  • Luca,

    Whether I use the LMX2820 evaluation board or your preferred LMX2594 evaluation board, could you please indicate which detector to use for measuring the S21 parameter in magnitude?

    We use a number of industry-standard network analyzers for S-parameter measurement during characterization, largely from HP/Agilent/Keysight, Rohde & Schwarz, and other established test and measurement vendors. We also build coupon boards alongside our characterization EVMs with comparable trace length to help de-embed board-specific parameters. Finally, in specific scenarios we can simulate devices and extracted PCB characteristics, though it is time-consuming to do this correctly and specific to a particular layout. This might not be a good fit for every use case. I'm unclear if this answers your question.

    While we're happy to answer any questions related to TI devices that arise during design, questions about whole-system fabrication like this are beyond the scope of what we can answer on E2E. We can point you to TI resources that can aid in design (e.g. https://www.ti.com/solution/vector-signal-transceiver-vst), but we can't recommend any turnkey design services for this kind of application - you'll have to determine this part of your design on your own.
