FDC1004: FDC1004

Part Number: FDC1004

For our capacitive proximity sensor project, we are using the FDC1004DGSR. To sense objects, we use a 23mmX23mm sensor plate. However, it does not detect objects. As we increase the size of the sensor plate, it works(but it does not detecting the small objects like seeds). Our requirement is 23mmX23mm size. What will be the issue? I would appreciate your immediate assistance in this matter.

  • Aswin,

    Thanks for your inquiry.
    I have a few questions:
    1. What is the nominal capacitance of your sensor?
    2. What is the expected change in your sensor's capacitance in the presence of the small test object?
    3. What are the electrical properties of the small objects?

    Regards,
    John

  • Hi John,

    Thanks for the reply.

Question 1 and 2: Sorry..We are not too much aware of these parameters. We are in just beginning stage. We will update you soon.

Question 3: Small objects can be seeds.(with 20-30% water content).

When we are using a locally available capacitive sensor, it is detecting almost all the objects.Link for the proximity sensor( Seeds are detecting in the range of 3 cm). My required sensing range is 2-3 cm for seeds.

What are the design parameters for the sensor plate? Can you please provide a support on that also? Here i'm attaching the Schematics of the sensor we designed. Please check that also.
