FDC1004: FDC1004

Part Number: FDC1004

Hi Sir,

There are some question from customer as below, please have your answer, thanks.

#1 Water level sensing method

We would like to understand more about the method of capacitance ratio.
How's the FDC1004 measurement algorithm, including calibration, different liquid?

#2 Can sensor detect liquid other than water and how to calibrate them

My question along the line is what about fruit juice? What kinds of fluid viscosity can we accommodate?

Thanks, Ian.

  • Hi Ian,

All of the documentation needed to measure liquid level can be found in this app note. This describes and provides guidance on the app notes needed to get started on the design.

The FDC1004 datasheet describes the application use case and also describes the usage of the calibration registers. Here is an app note on the calibration. Are there any specific questions about the calibration that needs clarification ?

In regards to Questions #2, The FDC1004 detects a change in capacitance. We recommend this for water level sensing as the liquid viscosity or thickness increases and if it sticks to the top of the sensor plate and it can introduce errors.
