PGA460PSM-EVM: Connecting PGA460PSM-EVM to MSP430F5529LP

Part Number: PGA460PSM-EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BOOSTXL-PGA460, , PGA460

Tool/software:

Good Afternoon,

I recently evaluated the BOOSTXL-PGA460 and was satisfied with its ability to detect objects at long distances. I decided to use the reference design for the PGA460PSM-EVM and connect it to a different microcontroller on the board but also wanted to add jumpers to connect it back to the MSP430F5529LP to evaluate the board with the GUI if needed. I wanted to make sure that this was a practical way to do this and if so where to connections on the MSP430F5529LP were to to connect the two boards.

  • Hello Sahaj,

Sure, this is a reasonable way to allow for connecting to the 5529LP.  The connections on the J1/J3 and J2/J4 headers can be seen below and are also available in the users guide.  There are pins that are likely not needed for your implementation that you could ignore.  You really just need to have your interface and power/ground.  If using UART, this would include SCLK, TXD, RXD, V+, GND.  The PGA460PSM-EVM reference design is a good example of the PGA460 circuit without additional pin usage.
