FDC1004 liquid level sensor, temperature and distance variation

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: FDC1004

Hello everyone

I wana use the FDC1004 for liquid level sensing (water) in a house hold appliance. May we have to use the "Out of Phase" technique for our application.

We want detect the water level in a water tank. The water tank can be taken out of the machine. The electronics/PCB will be hidden behind an other wall. This means that the distance to the water is not properly defined in case of tolerances and handlig of the water tank.

Can the FDC1004 handle this? Is there any way to compensate the tolerances?

The other thing is the temperature/enviroment. How sensitive is the chip/system on changing the enviroment (especially temperature)? Is there any experience?

thanks

best regards Roland

  • Hello Roland,

The ratiometric measurement described in this design should address most of the variations, which are common to both the reference and level sensors. There will still be some variation due to change in fringing electric field. This will depend on the level of tolerance of the appliance.

    Best regards,
