AWR1642BOOST: 76-81 GHz-band regulation

Part Number: AWR1642BOOST

Dear TI,

Im currently looking into the regulations for the 77 GHz-band (76-77) the 79GHz-band (77-81).

I found documentation from the ETSI (europe) from 2004 the FCC (america) from 2014 the ARIB (japan) from 2015 (they only describe the 77 GHz-band and also ducoments from the ITU from 2014.

All documentatiotn describe recommendations towards the subject but i can't find any regulation on this subject other than the European Communitiy (EC) who regulated it for the EU in 2004.

Also non of the documents specify the band for industrial use anywhere. Most of them even note its explicitly for the automotive industry.

Is there any place where i can find the current status on the regulation of BOTH bands and any information about regulations of other use than automotive (industrial applications).

thanks in advance.

Alain

AWR1243: MmWave for Radio Regulation for Principal countries - Sensors forum - Sensors - TI E2E support...

    e2e.ti.com
Part Number: AWR1243 Hi Experts, Could you please share with us what type of radio regulations are required for mmWave products for principal countries such as

but tis topic is incomplete. it only refers to 2 ETSI regulation reports and something about the FCC.
The first answer states much more information but without any refference. I need to be sure about these regulations (possibly world wide) before we can start investing in this technology.

edit: The ITU made an recommendation about these mmWave bands and on their website they state "We allocate global radio spectrum and satellite orbits". Does this mean that with this recommendation every member of the ITU is agreeing on this matter? or does every member still need to sign for acceptance?

  • Hi Alain,

My understanding is that the ITU only makes recommendations for technical standards on how different frequency bands could be used by different member states. It is then up to the different member states to accept the recommendations or not. What you'll find is that regulations on different frequency bands can differ greatly from country to country.

Here are a few listings within the FCC and ETSI code that we have found and we may have referenced in previous E2E posts. We request that every customer review all applicable regulations in order to understand what rules may or may not apply to your desired product.

    FCC:

    • 47 CFR §15.253 (ground-based vehicles, fixed infrastructure)
    • 47 CFR §15.256 (level probing radar)
    • FCC 15-16 (ground-based vehicles, fixed infrastructure)

    ETSI:

    • ETSI EN 301 091-1 (ground-based vehicles)
    • ETSI EN 301 091-2 (fixed infrastructure)
    • ETSI EN 301 091-3 (railway/road crossings)
    • ETSI EN 303 360 (rotorcraft)
    • ETSI EN 302 264 (vehicles)
    • ETSI EN 302 729 (level probing radar)
    • ETSI EN 302 372 (level probing radar)

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

    Regards,

    Keegan
