AWR2243BOOST: Firmware Loading SPI VS QSPI Flash

Part Number: AWR2243BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR2243, AWR1243

Hello,

Can I get an idea of the time required for loading the chip firmware over SPI vs the QSPI flash module used in the AWR2243 Cascade Board?  Is this done every time the board powers up?

Thanks,

Robert

  • Hi Robert,

I don't have exact no. of both ways of firmware download but loading from QSPI flash would be much faster compare to external SPI download.

In QSPI case: device bootloader will load the firmware content at very boot.

And on the other hand, if sFlash is empty or not connected then at every boot you need to download the firmware over SPI.

For current AWR2243 silicon variant ES1.0 firmware file size is >300KB which is RAM image but for the next Silicon revision ES1.1, it will be just a patch file size of <20KB so loading over SPI will be much faster. AWR2243 ES1.1 will be available in a few months.

Please be noted that for AWR1243/AWR2243 device loading over SPI from the external processor is the preferred option at the end product (to save sflash cost).
