As it is mentioned in the previous response, I am interested in using Laser module as the light source.
AFE gives upto 200nA, do I need to use a switching circuit to drive the laser module that requires 200mA operating current? Is there any requirement (response speed, tolerance etc.) for the driver/laser module to be used connected to OPT3103 EVM?
Thank you.
Hi Makoto,
Please check the datasheet for the AFE drive current. It is around 170mA. If you are able to drive directly from the OPT3101 this would be best case as it will keep the shortest path and minimize crosstalk. You will also be able to refer to out documentation on layout and minimizing crosstalk. Using the device with an external drive is theoretically possible, but we do not have any reference design for this and it will require testing and prototyping on your side to verify functionality and usability.
Best,
Alex
Hi Alex,
Thanks for your reply, and I found that I misunderstood the operating (max) current of OPT3101. I will try an external laser module making the cable as short as possible.
Best,
Makoto
