DCA1000EVM: Trying to connect DCA1000EVM to AWR2243BOOST

Part Number: DCA1000EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR2243, AWR2243BOOST

Hi,

I was trying to connect the AWR2243 BOOST to DCA1000EVM.

However, I realized that the connection details given are for "DCA1000EVM with the xWR1xxx EVM".

Do the connection details mentioned for xWR1xxx EVM hold for AWR2243 BOOST?

Is it fine to power up the DCA1000EVM using the "60-pin high density connector".

Regards,

Swaroop

  • Yes,

The same procedure should apply to AWR2243.

    Please use the MMWAVE-STUDIO-2G

    https://www.ti.com/tool/MMWAVE-STUDIO

    Thank you

    Cesar

  • Hi,

I followed all the procedure to start the AWR2243BOOST along with the DCA1000EVM.

While I was able to do everything but I was not able to capture the data. I clicked DCA1000ARM and then trigger frame from the link

    https://training.ti.com/dca1000-training-video?context=1128486-1139154-1136663

I followed the instructions regarding LDO Bypass Requirement as per https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/spruit8c/spruit8c.pdf?ts=1604747848428&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.ti.com%252Ftool%252FAWR2243BOOST&_ticdt=MTYwNjgwMjQ2NXxsaXQ0MjM1YzQwMDQyMzVjNDAwNDIzNWM0MDA1ZjUwYWY2ODEzNTIyYjc1fEdBMS4yLjUzMzYxMDc4Mi4xNTk5MTIzNDU3fDE

When I clicked on PostProc I got the screen as per the attachment.

I thought of debugging the problem. I thought it was because of hardware and software mode but the switch S2.5 is set to software mode.

I have attached the pdf. Please let me know if you can see the problem.

Please go over it and give some suggestions.

  • Hi,

Is your DCA1000 properly powered? Notice that the DCA1000 can be powered from the radar board or from a separate power supply. There is a switch that controls this.

Base on the log it seems that it is disconnected.

Please check our DCA1000 mmwave FAQ. It includes a lot of debug tips

  • The LD2 and LD10 were glowing green on DCA1000. Is there any other way to tell whether DCA1000 is powered on. Swaroop
  • Hi Cesar,

Is it possible that DCA1000 will give the following error if studio is installed on i3 processor PC.

Unable to read FPGA version. [error -5]

The DCA is still not connected and is not able to capture data.

    Can you please help.

    Regards,

    Swaroop

  • Swaroop,

mmWave Studio should have no issue running on an PC with an i3 processor.

Have you attempted to run the "DataCaptureDemo_xWR.lua" script that is included in the mmWave Studio installation? This script is located in this folder location:

    C:\ti\mmwave_studio_03_00_00_14\mmWaveStudio\Scripts

This can help determine if the AWR2243BOOST and DCA1000EVM are working properly.

Please refer to the DCA1000 Quick Start Guide on how to run this capture script. This guide is found in this folder location:

    C:\ti\mmwave_studio_03_00_00_14\docs

    Regards,
    Kyle

  • Hi Kyle,

Thanks a lot. I have been working on this and trying to implement the same on different computers but this is not working. I also bought another power supply so that I can use two power supplies instead of one.

I followed whatever you suggested and I am attaching the log. First I tried running of DataCaptureDemo_xWR.lua and then did all the setup because I have to do the LDO bypass for 2243.

    I was surprised with this

    [13:20:11] [RadarAPI]: ar1.SelectChipVersion("AR1243")

    [13:20:11] [RadarAPI]: Status: Passed

    [13:20:12] [RadarAPI]: ar1.SelectChipVersion("AR1243")

The problem starts when I try to setup DCA1000.

I get what is shown in the figure at the end of the log when I setup DCA1000. I am sure the FPGA version is different.

Please help me with this. I need to get this thing working in the next few days.

    Regards,

    Swaroop

  • Swaroop,

Can you provide several pictures of your physical setup? I need more information to provide a better response.

    Regards,
    Kyle

  • Hi Kyle,

I have been able to fix the problem.

Seemed some driver was missing even though it was not showing so.

    Regards,

    Swaroop

  • Swaroop,
