CCSv5 license problem using existing CCSv4 license

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CCSTUDIO

Hi,

I just installed CCSv5 (5.1.0.09000), and selected my valid CCSv4 license file.  I verifed my CCSv4 will still show up as "registered" and I also logged into MyTi and checked my active licenses.  Everything looks correct (i.e. the MAC address is good--and the license is active).  My understanding is that CCSv5 is able to use the existing CCSv4 license.  However, even though I pointed my CCSv5 to the proper license file, it still shows up as Unlicensed, and I see the following problems:

  • Hi Michael,

actually v5 can not use a v5 license.  What you need to do is check if you have a valid subscription.  If so, you will need to get an updated license for v5 (which will work still with v4).  You may have received an email as below?

Please keep us informed.    What type of license do you have?

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

Only for v5 pre-release versions. 5.1.0.09000 is the official v5.1 release and you will need a new v5.1 license for it.

    Thanks

  • Sorry that should read v5 can not use a v4 license.

I also meant to send this

  • Thanks,

I got the new license generated and it is working.

I did have some trouble generating the new license file, but it turned out the problem was logging in to myTI web-site using Chrome.  Using IE, it worked (though I had to keep clicking to allow it to view mixed secure/un-secure pages).

Also, when in CCSv5 I selected to add the new license file --- CCS hung up.  I waited a 'long' time and eventually got tired of waiting and killed it and rebooted.  When I came back up, the license was working...

  • Hi Michael,

ok great to hear you got it set up.  All the best with development.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

I am trying to do the same, but I have some confusion on what you meant by "valid subscription".

I have also followed your steps to go to the myregisteredsoftware page, but didn't see TMDSCCS-ALLF03-v4.0.  Instead, I have this: "TMDSCCS-ALLN01D0-v4.0" with Active registration status.  Does it mean my subscription is valid?

After I clicked on the "Manage" button, I didn't see the "UPGRADE - GET NEW LICENSE" link, but just the "Get a Replacement License" link.  Are they the same?  Or I will just get the replacement license for v4.0 but not for V5.1?

I did not proceed after this.  I will wait for your response before I continue.

    Thanks,

    -- Louis

  • Hi Louis,

you simply have a node locked instead of floating license.

Yes, "get a replacement license" is what you want (I believe).

     Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • I am getting a file named: TMDSCCS-ALLN01D-v4.0.lic.  Is it a v4.0 license or a v5.1 license?  Am I able to install my v5.0 with this license file?

    Thanks,

    -- Louis

  • Hi Louis,

what did you try to update the license?   No, it should say v5 so it seems to have just regenerated the same license.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • In the step 3 you mentioned, there are only these 3 options:

I don't see the "Upgrade" or "Update" option though.

  • Hi Louis,

do you have an active subscription?

    Best Regards
    Lisa

  • I believe so.  How can I tell?

Here are my license info (with the activation ID removed):

                    Product Name : CCSTUDIO TMDSCCS-ALLN01D
                    Product Version : 4.0
                    Activation Date : Jul 29, 2010
                    Start Date : Jul 29, 2010
                    Expiration Date : PERMANENT
                    Fulfillment Count : 1
                    Overdraft Count : 0
                    Server Ids :
                    License Model Name : DSP-NLK-Perm-CCS

Note that I have a CCSv4 permanent license.  Does it mean my subscription is active?

    -- Louis

  • Hi Louis,

unfortunately not.  Unless you purchased a subscription, you don't currently have one.  CCS normally comes with a 1 year subscription.  After that you would have needed to renew.   If you don't know if someone purchased a renewal, you should email ccs_subscriptions@list.ti.com

You will always be fully licensed for v4 and allowed minor updates to v4 but unfortunately not v5.

I would install v5.4 in parallel and use the trial license to give it a try.  Then you can decide if you wish to purchase a v5 license.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Thanks Lisa for the explanation. We'll definitely move on to v5.

And I didn't understand the permanent license Vs subscription relationship. (I am still not 100% sure...)

    Thanks,

    -- Louis
