Hi,
I am trying to program EVALBOT Developer Board with example "hello world" code but CCS 5 keeps warning me that
Quote:
>>License cannot be acquired
The license file you are using is only valid under Code Composer Studio 4. To continue using Code Composer Studio 5, please update your license file. To see the available licensing option, ho to 'Help -> Code Composer Studio Licensing Information', and then browse the 'Upgrade' tab.
Message stays even when I select FREE LICENSE which supports Onboard emulators on Stellaris development kits.
If I select ACTIVATE and 'Register' it asks me to enter "Activation ID" where do I get that.
How to update my license file so I will be able to program the EVALBOT?
Dorijan
Version of the CCS5.1.0.09000
OS: Win 7 Pro, 32bit, SP1
Hi Dorijan,
The message is correct that a v4 license can not be used with the new v5. What license do you have? DId you select?
To continue with v5 you have a few options
- trial license
-free code size limited license for the MSP430
-CCS is free for use with the XDS100 and certain on chip emulators "Free limited License"
- if you have an active subscription and full v4 license you can upgrade it (v4 will still work)
Please keep us informed and have a look here

Thanks for the fast response Lisa ... that was fast - as soon as I moved the thread!
Anyway, this is a Stellaris customer. We provide free CCS 4 licenses with our kits that can be installed from CD. These are free and fully functional licenses, not time-limited, but are locked to the kits. It looks like this license does not work correctly with CCS 5.
Hi Joe,
no unfortunately CCSv5 is licensed differently and separately.
However the Stellaris ICDI and XDS100 should work without a purchased license if "Free Limited License" is selected.
@Dorijan - you can try changing your license configuration under Help->Code Composer Studio Licensing Information->Manage tab

Lisa
Hi Dorijan,
I just wanted to check whether the tips were helpful and things are running along for you now.

Hi Lisa,
I had the same problem described in this thread, specifically by Joe above. It also turned out I had other problems too. When I finally found a solution to them I decided to share my experience in case others have the same problem(s). The error I was getting was "License cannot be acquired", this was after I had been using an eval license that eventually expired after 90 days and could only be renewed once.
My problem began 1 year ago when I started using CCSv5.x with an EVM (LM4F232H5QD EVALUATION BOARD ) that only came with a CCSv4.x license. However I began using an eval license under CCSv5.x as described above. Once I discovered I should have been operating under the EVM Bundle License (Free Limited License) I then thought the v4.x license wouldn't work under v5.x as per this thread.
However, CCS v5.2 does prompt you to upgrade your v4 license.
Which I did and then opted for the Free License as follows, but there was still one more piece of the puzzle.
I had to remove the Eval licenses from the list below. CCSv5 was preferentially using the expired license. After I removed them then all was good !!
