CCS/TMS320F28335: Emulator XDS510 USB with Code Composer Studio 9.x and higher

Part Number: TMS320F28335

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hello All,

I am attempting to upgrade out project to CCS 9.x and noticed it does not seem to support the XDS510USB JTag emulator any more.  Went to the spectrum digital website and it states it is only supported thru 8.x...

Is this permanent? or with the XDS510 USB be supported by 9.x in the future?

Per the spectrum digital website:

"Compatible with the Code Composer Studio versions 3.1 through 8.x from Texas Instruments
(Not compatible with Code Composer Studio version 9.x and later)"

Thanks,

-mike

  • Mike,

CCSv9.x is a 64bit application across Windows, Linux and Mac. The software stacks for XDS510 are not ported to 64bit.

Spectrum Digital has no plans to port their XDS510 stack to be 64bit. To continue using that debug probe you will need to stay on CCSv8.3.1 or earlier.

    Regards,
    John
  • Hello!

What's about SAU510-USB jtag emulators? Does It use the same staсk? The support for this device to be continued or not?

  • I am not aware of any but you could try contacting Sauris.  Maybe they have plans.  Looking at their website it looks like they did a 64bit release for Linux so maybe they will do one for Windows as well.

    Regards,

    John

  • I guess it depends...  Might need to contact Sauris GmbH directly...  Seems they wrote their own 64 bit drivers for linux (may 2017), but I don't see any support for 64bit Windows drivers...  Also keep in mind, it does seem that TI is moving away from this model completely...  Per their sites, it is depreciated and they are not updating drivers to 64bit...  So any support you get will have to go through the emulator manufacturer...

Per some of their websites, the first does not even show the 510 anymore...  Now that CCS 9 is 64 bit only, seems they are not upgrading the 510 stack to 64 bit...  The second specifies the depreciation notice (as pasted below)
    http://www.ti.com/tools-software/debug.html
    http://software-dl.ti.com/ccs/esd/documents/ccs_downloads.html#code-composer-studio-version-9-downloads

    Deprecation notices:

    • All 32-bit versions of Code Composer Studio are deprecated.
    • Spectrum Digital XDS510USB JTAG debuggers are not supported with 64bit CCS installations.
    • Ubuntu 12.04LTS support is deprecated with the release of CCSv8.
    • Windows XP support is deprecated with the release of CCSv7.
    • Stellaris (LM3S and LM4F) devices are not supported starting with CCSv7.

  • Thank you, John. I'm waiting for Sauris Company answer.
