CC2640: WMCU_SWO

Part Number: CC2640

I'm studying LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2_1_0_0_Schematics.pdf and I was wondering what was the function of the "WMCU_SWO" net-link? This net-link is present in all Bluetooth LaunchPads with XDS110, except Bluetooth low energy devices with few pins.
Trying to implement the XDS100v2, instead of XDS110, I noticed that the DIO18_RTS/SWO pin of the CC2640R2FRGZ remains unused. What function does it have? If it has a specific function can I still use the XDS100v2?

  • Hi Lidong,

This is the Serial Wire Output (SWO) pin used to export a stream of software-generated messages, data trace, and profiling information through one pin to a Serial Wire Viewer (SWV) interface.  You can read more about this feature from the TRM.  It is not necessary for common JTAG programming/debugging applications.  That being said, it is not possible to program the CC2640R2F using the XDS100v2.  Please refer to this similar E2E thread (among others) and consider using a XDS100v3 or XDS110 instead.

    Regards,
    Ryan
