INA286: Unidirectional Operation

Part Number: INA286

Hi,

When the INA286 is connected unidirectional configuration , will it be damaged if current flows bidirectionally?

Actually I want to measure current that flows from supply to battery but also the load is connected to battery.

I don't want to measure current that flows from battery to load.

I will be glad if you help.

Thanks & Regards,

  • Ilgin,

    Thanks for using E2E!

Provided the absolute maximums stated in the datasheet are not violated, this should not damage the device. However, it will cause the output to saturate to the GND rail of the device, and provide non-linear output. When the device is brought back into the forward current direction, there will be some saturation recovery time associated with this that will need to be taken into account for the device to regain linear operation. Unfortunately, because this behavior is nonlinear, it cannot really be characterized or measured, and may vary based on time in saturation, magnitude of saturation, and other factors.
