LMV772: Absolute max rating (V+)

Hello team,

We are using LMV772QMMX in our application and the op-amp is supplied by a 5V regulator. During a failure condition for the regulator, we may observe an overshoot for a very small duration (~80ns) on the VDD5 line.

As per the datasheet, the pin is rated for max (5.75 + 0.3)V. Could you please provide feedback how much overshoot voltage on the V+ supply line the op-amp is capable of handling for a few nanoseconds?

    The abs max supply voltage rating is 5.75V. If this is configured with a single-supply and V- connected to ground, the abs max voltage that can be applied to the V+ pin is 5.75V. Any voltage beyond the absolute maximum ratings may cause damage to the device. If your circuit may violate this condition in a failure mode, it is recommended to clamp the voltage at the supply pin using a TVS diode.

  • As you stated, the LMV772 absolute maximum rated supply voltage is 5.75V.  This is controlled by the fabrication process used to manufacture the product (no overshoot is allowed even for a very short duration) and thus may only be exceeded at your own risk (TI does NOT guarantee anything above 5.75V).  The rating of (V+)+0.3V applies ONLY to the input pins BUT not supply pin. The voltage on the input pins may be exceeded by at least 0.3V; in case the voltage on the input pins is more than 0.3V beyond supply voltage, the input current must be limited to 10mA or less.
