INA317: If the INA317 power supply is +2.5V and -2.5V, can the input signal exceed (V+)+ 0.3V?

Part Number: INA317

Hi team,

If the INA317 power supply is +2.5V and -2.5V, can the input signal exceed (V+)+ 0.3V?

The DS says that if the input signal voltage exceeds the power supplies by more than 0.3 V, the input signal current must be limited to less than 10 mA to protect the internal clamp diodes. So signal voltage more than (V+)+0.3V can be accepted?

  • Hale,

If INA317 is powered by +/-2.5V supplies, exceeding the supplies by more than 0.3V while limiting input current (In+) with resistor would mean Vext is more than 300mV (e.g. 3V) above supply but the actual input , Vin+, may still be less than 300mV above 2.5V as shown below.  This prevents any damage to IC.
