VFC110: VFC110AP use of 2016 and Older

Part Number: VFC110

Hello

In my last post I had mentioned that I was falling short of some 200 Nos

of  VFC110 / VFC110AP / VFC110AP-2 for a Project of ours.

I have procured the rest from Rochester and some Distributors.

I have been offered some with a Date Code of 2010 & 2016.

My question is whether I can use 7 year or 12 year old IC's VFC110

or their two variants.

Besides Non compliance to ROHS , can there be any other issues

regarding their functionality and/or the variation due to aging of the

Internal Cos ( Approx 50 pF ) ?

  • Hi Varun,

Yes I remember your challenges, I wish there was more we could to do help get you more devices.

Regarding device shelf lifetimes, generally this comes down to moisture sensitivity.  A device that has been sitting on the shelf in a humid environment may start to absorb moisture, and the package/die interface will be degraded.  When this occurs, there can be detrimental effects to the performance of the device.  I can't say for sure if the capacitor itself would be impacted but the mechanism behind capacitor failures on, say, film or electrolytic capacitors, would be different than a capacitor on a silicon die.

However if the product has been stored properly and maintained the proper packaging, then it should be OK; see the following website for more details:

Please review the info. above and let us know if there's anything we can help clarify.

    Regards,
    Mike
