TLV1805-Q1: Output voltage during shutdown

Part Number: TLV1805-Q1

What does the output do when the shutdown input is active?  I see contradictory information in the datasheet and simulations.

Figure 2. Shutdown Timing - shows the output going high during shutdown and matches PSPICE simulation.

Section 7.3.4 Shutdown Function describes the output as high impedance during shutdown and requires a pull-up or pull-down to prevent floating states.

Please clarify.

Thanks.

  • Hello James,

During shutdown, the output goes high-Z (neither sinking or sourcing). Essentially "floating".

However, the ESD protection diodes from the output to each rail are still present - so the output cannot be forced beyond the supplies.

If you wish the output to go in a particular direction during shutdown, then a light pull-up or pull-down resistor would be needed.

  • Thanks for the clarification Paul.

I'd like to suggest correcting the PSPICE model to act appropriately when shutdown is active as well as clarifying Figure 2 in the datasheet if possible.

    Thanks
