AMC1200: 20mA current sense

Part Number: AMC1200

Hi, I plan to read 20mA current using above schematic and I want to separate the (-) terminal for each input. The supply label detailed below:

VDDA : 3.3V
VDDA2 : isolated 5V

Question:

1. Is it will work find?

2. Related to ESD should I add TVS between (+) and (-) input terminal? Please kindly give me some recommendation

  • Hi Khyarul,

    What is your system?

    1. What do you mean by separate the negative terminal for each input? You should have your negative input tied to ground after the resistor.

    2. I don't think you need to add a diode if that is what you are asking.

    Best regards,
    Eva

  • Like I mentioned above, the system I designed is to measure the 0-20mA current.

    1. I want every input has its own negative terminal. Why should I connect the ground to negative terminal? Does it will make voltage exceed the common-mode operating range of AMC1200 input?

    2. I see, so TVS diode doesn't necessary on the input side?

  • Hi Khyarul,

    1. Every input can have its own negative terminal, but if you want them to be separate from each device you need to have separate grounds per device too. Connecting the negative input to ground is something we typically recommend to define the common-mode input voltage.

    2. Not necessary!

    Best regards,

    Eva
