XTR111: signal conditioning for ADS131M08

Part Number: XTR111
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS131M08,

Dear Team,

We have selected the ADC ADS131M08 but we have certain requirement of ADC for signal conditioning i.e V - I converter. could you suggest whether XTR111 is compatible for our requirement or some other part number which we can consider for signal conditioning for ADC ?

our current requirement is 4 - 20mA.

Kindly check this and let me know.

Hoping to hear from you soon.

Thanks and Regards,

  • Hi Prajwal,

I have answered your other post query regarding the I-V converter receiver side interfacing with the ADS131M08, where I suggested an op-amp with a shunt resistor, scaling the signal the 4-20mA input to 100mV to 3.2V  in the range of the ADS131M08.

Is this question regarding the XTR111 V-I current transmitter?

The XTR111 can be used to produce an output current of 4-20mA.

For example, on the circuit below, the XTR111 powered with a supply larger than >+8V, RSET=2.49kΩ ,accepts a 0V-5V input voltage from a DAC and produces a 0mA to 20mA output:

Let me know if you have questions about the XTR111.

    Thank you and Regards,

    Luis

  • Hi Luis,

Thanks for your reply. my question is regarding the compatibility of ADS131M08  with XTR111 whether will it be suitable for our requirement.

our input voltage requirement is 0 - 5v and output current requirement is 4 - 20mA.

Kindly check this and let me know.

Hoping to hear from you soon.

    Thanks for your support.

  • HI Prajwal,

The XTR111 current output transmitter can support a 4-20mA output signal while powered with a >8V supply.

Using the recommended configuration of the XTR111 datasheet Figure 36, with RSET = ~2.49kOhm, and a voltage divider as shown on data sheet Figure 43, p17 of the XTR111 data sheet, will provide the proper transfer function, supporting VIN=0 to +5V for a current Iout in the range of 4mA to 20mA:

In the simplified simulation below, the XTR111 regulator is configured to produce a +5V voltage. The 10kΩ-40kΩ voltage divider at the XTR111 input is referred to the +5V XTR111 regulator voltage.  The XTR111 produces a current output Iout in the range of 4mA to 20mA, for an input voltage of 0V to +5V at the voltage divider input. See simplified simulation below:
