VFC32 / LM231 Question

Hello,

I have to send an analog voltage signal over an optical link. I would like to do this by a V-F -> F-V conversion.

The problem is that the voltage hase some short spikes (1ms) which have to be recovered on the "other side" by the F-V conversion. This image shows the input signal which has to be transmitted:

Its not important to recover the exact height or width of the spikes, but they must be visible.

Can I do this with the VFC32 / LM231? Is the speed / resolution good enough?

    These V/F converters are integrating devices that average the input voltage waveform. Their advantage in many applications would be a disadvantage in this application.

    Furthermore, the conversion of frequency back to voltage tends to be a slow, averaging process and would not respond well to pulses. There are more exotic circuits for F/V conversion that can improve speed.

    Lacking any more detail of your application, V/F to F/V conversion seems like it is not well-suited.
