pre amplifier *** filter *** line driver for Acoustic emission sensors

Design of pre amplifier *** filter modules *** amplifier *** line driver for 100 mts

it comprises of first stage FET input followed bu high pass filter , log amplifier , then Band pass filter then lastly followed by line driver.

The  output is a phantom power supply with supply of 28V

The above unit is used to interface Acoustic emmision of the following features .

  1.  AE sensors freq  20 khz  to 1 mhz
  2.  FET amplifier or amp should be able to cover 6 decades.(  log ampl to support 6 decades)
  3.  Filter should be available in differnet modules.
  4.  Line driver to support signal travel of 100 mtrs.
  5.  Output should be +/- 10 V

i would like to suggest design of the above modules

  • Hello Satish,

Lets break this design down piece by piece so that we can suggest an optimized signal chain -

    1. Can you please let me know the features of the input signal to the 1st stage FET amp, magnitude and frequency.

    2. Is the power supply a single supply or split supply.

    3. Is it a current input or voltage input into the 1st stage amplifier?

    4. What is the nature and requirement of the HPF? Is there any reason you dont want to integrate the 1st stage and HPF stage together?

    5. can you ac couple the input to the 1st stage?
