we have had 2 wires 4-20mA output sensor products using PGA309 and XTR115.
but now some clients want 3 wires 4-20mA output.could you give me some advices? is it possible to get 3 wires 4-20mA output using using PGA309 and XTR115?

Weiming,
As I understand from your statement is that earlier you have given 2 wire interface, VCC and 4-20mA output as per xtr115 datasheet.
But I couldnt make out which will be your third wire?
Is it Ground or 0V?

thanks for your relpy.
yes.the 3rd wire is Ground.
is that ok if I use xtr111 to replace xtr115? do you have other better solution?
thank you.
Weming,
Recommend XTR111 as 3 wires voltage to current converter, in this case, PGA309+EEPROM+Resistance Bridge can draw more 4mA quiescent current.
I am wondering why you intend use 3 wires current loop tranducer ? the resistance of bridge consumes too much crrent right ?

Hi Weiming,
You can use the XTR110 or XTR111 to achieve a 3-wire current loop output with the PGA309. The XTR111 is a lower-cost option, with a voltage regulator instead of a reference and no internal resistors to create an internal 4mA offset shift. You can still achieve the offset using the regulator, or the internal reference of the PGA309, along with two discrete resistors.

I have developed similar application using xtr110 and accuaracy is also very good.
It seems XTR111 can also be used for the same application.

the client wants 3 wires 4-20mA output .
but our products are 2 wires 4-20mA output.
Hello Weiming,
While there are some products available from other component manufacturers that can be used as both 2 and 3-wire 4-20mA transmitter, all of the 4-20mA products from TI are dedicated 2 or 3-wire transmitters. If your customer needs a 3-wire output please follow the advice of Hawk, Ian, or Shrikant above and use the XTR110 or XTR111 with the PGA309.
