OPA890: Input and ESD protection

Part Number: OPA890

HI, In OPA890 datasheet (section Input and ESD protection) it is stated that all device pins are protected with internal ESD protection diodes to the power supplies. I guess it relates not only to the inputs, but to the output as well. My customer question is if I can rely on this output protection diodes during 20ms power up when OPA890 power is not applied yet, but its output is subjected to 1mA current from external circuit. Thanks.

  • HI Naser,

The ESD diode on our devices are designed specifically to handle high voltage and short duration ESD voltage events. They are not designed or characterized for handling a constant current like this scenario. If the 1mA current cannot be avoided through other means, an external clamp will need to be added in this case.

    Regards,
