LM324: ESD cell in IN+/-

Part Number: LM324

Hello,

Let me confirm, the LM324 datasheet says that ESD protection cells in IN+/- are available only on LM324K and LM324KA only.
LM324DR does not have any ESD cells, is that correct?
If that is correct, there is no large amount of leak current seen when the input accidentally pulled lower than -0.3V. Is this understanding correct?
Or is there any other expected abnormal mode concern in such abnormal case? (Of course, I understood we must keep -0.3V but I'd like to know it to assess for abnormal case risk.)

Thanks in advance.

  • Sawamoto-san,

LM324K has ESD cell on inputs. LM324DR doesn't have an ESD cell. Both have a diode behaviour for input voltage that is negative. Therefore series resistance must be used to limit current if the source driving the input is not naturally current limited.

You may want to look at the application note for LM324. It has a lot of information specific for LM324 family of devices.
