Max current output of OPA549

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA549

Dear experter of TI

We want to enlarge the analog signal Vin 0~5V to Vout (-10~10V) with OPA549, and the maximal output-current  is 7A.

The schematic is as following.

We connect  the Vout to a TEC , the resistance of this TEC is 2 ohm, the other terminal of the TEC is connedted with GND.

We found a question. When we feed the Vin with 5V, The maximal current of the Vout is only 1A, Normally it should be about 5A.

Is there anything wrong with the above circuit?

Looking forward to your reply, thanks

  • Hello Sunny Zhang,

Nothing appears to be wrong with the circuit configuration. However, having a capacitive load on the output of the amplifier may cause some stability issues.

Can you remove the TEC, R3 and C4 and test the circuit with only a 2 ohm resistive load on the output of the OPA549?

What is the maximum current the power supply can output? Is it possible that the power supply cannot supply 5A? If the power supply cannot supply more than 1A to the amplifier then the output current of the amplifier will be limited by the power supply current.
