LMX2492EVM: The Evaluation Board is not functioning properly

Part Number: LMX2492EVM

I need help.... After making several attempts to get the Evaluation Kit working I think the device is not functioning properly I need a replacement. There is no output from VCO no matter what I do, I see the communication between the PC application is working fine.

  • Hi Kamaljeet,

Did you mean you get no signal (including noise signal) from both RFout and RFout/2 output? How about the PLL? Does it work?

  • There are no outputs on both RFOut and RFOut/2.  The PLL has 0V at Vtune. The current draw from the board is higher than normal. We used a current limited 5V power supply. The board used to draw 0.17A at power up, and 0.25A after configuration and the locking LED is on. The output voltage is 5V.  Now, the board draws more than 0.5A at power up. The locking LED is always off. The power supply is limited to 0.5A, the voltage drops to 4.5V.  Apparently, there is something wrong with the board.

  • Hi Kamaljeet,

You were saying that the EVM was working normally but not now? If this is the case, I am afraid you should contact our Customer Support for support, this forum is meant to resolve application issues.

  • We did call TI customer support. We were told to first raise the question on this forum for some technical diagnostics. The customer support want to make sure the failure is not because we missed some steps. From what I described, can you tell if this is a board problem? This is really not fair that you are making us run around instead of helping us, you should be sending the email to the customer support. Our project is being delayed because of your poor response. I thought the evaluation board should be a give away so people can use your products. Please take care such that we get a proper help. Thanks.

  • Hi Kamaljeet,

Did you tell the customer support team that the EVM was working normally out of the board, but failure happen after some use?

There are only three main components in the board, did you identify whether the failure was due to PLL, VCO or the XO? If the failure is due to the PLL, you can request some free samples to replace it. If the failure came from the XO, you can configure the board to use external reference clock. I cannot help if the failure is due to the VCO, please contact Customer Support for assistance.
