LMX1204EVM: Problems using divider and multiplier mode

Hi,
I have difficulties using the LMX1204EVM in diviser or multiplier mode. Buffer mode work as intended but diviser and multiplier mode output the same spectrum as buffer mode.
For example in divide by 2 mode, with a 6 GHz input frequency at 3 dBm, output spectrum is the same than in buffer mode even after applying a reset (see screenshot and registers below).
I'm using v.1.7.5.7 of TICS Pro.
Did I miss a parameter to config ?

  • Hi Samuel,

    The operating mode selection of the LMX1204 is straight forward, where you can follow the below steps to operate in Divider mode or Multiplier mode.

    1. Divider mode:

    i. Load the default config file (Silicon Default)

    ii. Change the input operating frequency

    iii. Change the CLK_MUX to "Divider"

    iv. Set the CLK_DIV value to required divide value.

    You should get the required divided clocks out.

    2. Multiplier Mode:

    i. Load the default config file (Silicon Default)

    ii. Change the input operating frequency

    iii. Change the CLK_MUX to "Multiplier"

    iv. Set the CLK_MULT value to required frequency in the range of 3.2G to 6.4G.

    v. Calibrate the Multiplier to lock the VCO at desired frequency.

    You should get the required Multiplied clocks out.

    I followed your instructions but I did not manage to get the correct result. It seems that diviser/multiplier mode don't turn on on the board.

  • Hi Samuel,

    Which version of LMX1204EVM you are using for your testing? There is a silicon difference (even registers map) in before production and final release part. There was a "HSDC097E" board, which was released with old silicon during sample and the latest "HSDC097A" board was released with final silicon.

    If you already the have latest evaluation board, you can try with the below TICS Pro config file to operate in divider and multiplier mode.

  • I checked and you are right. I'm using the "HSDC097E1" board which has a pre-production silicon. Is there a way to test this board with the corresponding software ?
