LMX2592: RF Synthesizer Design

Part Number: LMX2592
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMK61E2, LMK61PD0A2

HI guys,

I am looking to design a LO source using LMX2592 RF synthesizer.

I have few query's regarding LMX2592.

1. What kind of resolution I can expect from LMX2592 between 20MHz to 9.8GHz ?

2. Can I use single output RFout A instead of two outputs ?

3. Does single ouput RFoutA covers all the output frequency range between 20M to 9.8G ?

4. Can I use single ended output instead of differential ?

Can anyone suggest me best 10M to 100M /200M reference clock generator with very low Jitter ?

As of now I am using Onsemi Part which is not very good, it is giving me a Jitter of 15 pico seconds.

Many Thanks,

Satya.

  • Hi Satya,

You can use a single output RFoutA instead of two outputs. If you are using single-ended terminate the unused side with a 50 ohm resistor. (Both RFoutA must be pulled up to Vcc)

If you are not using RFoutB, you can powerdown it down (by programming the registers) and leave the pins floating.

A single RFoutA covers the entire frequency Range (20 MHz to 9.8 GHz)

A few recommendations for a good reference clock:

    1) VC-708 (Vectron) 100MHz XO

    2) LMK61E2 or LMK61PD0A2 (Texas Instruments)

LMK61E2 is programmable oscillator from 10 MHz to 1GHz, LMK61PD0A2 offers 7 different frequencies (including 100MHz) with pin-strapping functionality.

I also suggest that you try PLLatinum sim for detailed design and simulation.

    Thanks,

    Julian

  • Hi Julian,

    Thanks for your reply.

Regarding reference clock, we have external 10MHz  reference clock from which I want to generate 100 MHz or 200 MHz reference clock.

Can you recommend any clock multipliers with very low Jitter

    Many thanks
