CDCE62005EVM: Standalone operation, without USB.

Part Number: CDCE62005EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CDCE62005, USB2ANY

Is there a fault with the CDCE62005EVM that means it won't run stand alone without a USB and software running?

The CDCE62005 should start with it's saved settings on power up but does nothing. Is this because the USB interface chip holds it in shut-down until it's communicated with the PC?

  • Hi Andrew,

You are correct, CDCE62005EVM will not work unless you plug in the USB and install the software. The USB controller holds the CDCE62005 in reset until communication is detected.

    Kind regards,
    Lane
  • Hi Lane,

    Thanks for confirming that.

Why is it designed like that? It means you can't test it without computer noise contamination from the USB cable.

Is there an update to the USB controller code that allows standalone running?

    Thanks

    Andrew

  • Hi Andrew,

It must have been an oversight in the original board design. Unfortunately, we don't have an update for the USB controller so that you can use the EVM without the USB cable.

Most of the newer EVMs for newer products use a USB2ANY MCU, and can function without the USB cable plugged in.

    Kind regards,
    Lane
