10.2.2.7 Receiver Input Threshold (Failsafe) Measured to confirm that it is as specified.
A FET probe was used to measure the differential output.
If the -A and -B terminals are shorted together, will this kind of failure mode occur?
-Will this kind of failure mode occur if the A terminal and GND terminal are shorted?
-Will this failure mode occur if the B terminal and VDD terminal are shorted?
Hello,
The receiver input threshold (failsafe) detects open-circuit and idle-bus conditions for the SN65MLVD204A. The conditions listed are not covered by the failsafe feature. From a receiver perspective, the receiver will look at VID, which is Va – Vb to determine the output.

Hello,
Another comment - using Table 4: Type-2 Receiver (SN65MLVD204A) in the datasheet:
- If A and B were shorted, there is no input differential, and the output would be low (VID ≤ 50 mV).
- If A is shorted to ground (and B has some type of input) or if B is shorted to VDD (and A has some type of input), the device would use VID to determine the output.
