Tool/software:
HI,
I would like confirmation of my understanding about a point on the DP83869 in 1000Mbps Media Converter Mode.
I would like to use the DP83869 with unmanagement and therefor ;
1 - I would like to know if the strap hardware configuration:
2 - And the configuration register :
• Write 0x0044 to register 1DFh // Set Operation Mode to 1000Base-T to 1000Base-X
• Write 0x1140 to register 0h // Reset BMCR
• Write 0x5048 to register 10h // Reset PHY_CONTROL
• Write 0x1140 to register C00h // Reset FX_CTRL • Write 0x4000 to register 1Fh // Software Reset
Question_2 : it is mentionned that 0x1FFC should be write to register 0x1EC in the SNLA318-February 2019 => Do I write this ? Where I should write it : first or there is no matter ?
are sufficient to insure operational link ?
Thank you
Regards
Fabrice
Hello,
Strapping OR sw communication should be used. They do not need to both be utilized. It is also advised to force fiber communication when in media converter mode.

Gerome
Hi Gerome ,
thanks for your answer.
I notice that you mentioned that Hardware configuration (strapping by resistor configuration) can be sufficient to configure the DP83869 Device into 1000Mbps Media Converter in order to Copper to Fiber link communication.
However , in the "SNLA318-February 2019 : Understanding different modes of operation in DP83869" documentation , there is a note indicating that register access for configuration is required and we have to write 0x1FFC to register 0x01EC (set bit [0] to 0.
So could you tell me how I have to consider this note ? this write acces register have to be perform for configuration ?
thanks for your help
Best regards
Fabrice
Hello,
Allow me to consult my colleagues on this. Will respond by EoD tomorrow.
Sincerely,
Gerome
Hello,
This is for link loss passthrough. This will allow for link loss indication to cascade across the signal chain. This still is required if you would like to use the functionality as this is default disabled.
Sincerely,
Gerome
