TPS2051B: IC destruction due to special power conditions.

Part Number: TPS2051B

Hey,

I'm using TPS2051B in one of my circuits.
Currently I'm investigating on possible risks of damaging this IC due to some special conditions.

The problem:
There are some special conditions on my system, where supply voltage is powered off for this IC (IN-pin = 0V).
However, I'm not able to fully control the EN-pin. It is possible that this line has a logic high state (EN-pin = 3.3V), even when power is off (IN-pin = 0V).

I searched in the datasheet, but was not able to find any information about the maximum values of this pin, when power is off.

Does anyone know if there are possible risks to damage the IC or where I can find this information in the datasheet.

Thanks in advance!

Greetings, NM

  • Hi ,

The Vin maximum voltage for Enable pin is 6V, you can find in the datasheet page 7.

No matter IC is power on or off , this pin volge can't exceed 6V .

  • Hi,

    to clarify this again:
The IC will not be damaged by a 3.3V voltage applied to the EN-pin, while there is no supply voltage on the IN-pin (IN-pin = 0V).
Therefore, the absolute maximum ratings on page 7 of the datasheet are always valid, even if the chip is not supplied with any power via the IN-pin.

    Are these statements correct?
Is there any possibility to prove that these values are always valid (no matter if powered or unpowered) form datasheet side?

    Thanks a lot!
  • Hi,

Yes it is corret! Actually the device internal logic mosfet max rating is 6V . This rating value have not relation ship with the Vin power on or off.
