TMS320C5533 bus question

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C5533

Can you confirm the number of simultaneously active communication buses on the TMS320C5533:

There are 4 I2S ports.  One of the I2S ports (set of pins) is shared with a SPI set of pins (P11, P9, P5, N10).  However, the BGA pins for the 5533 show a second set of SPI pins (K1, L3, N4, L1) that are not shared with an I2S port.

Please confirm that the SPI port on the separated pins (K1, L3, N4, L1) can be used simultaneously with I2S activity on the 4 I2S ports  (i.e. all 5 ports running).

  • Hi Rob,

Yes, you can use all 4 I2S ports and SPI concurrently. The answer is in in the EBSR register - See Table 4-10 in the C5535/4/3/2 Datasheet. You need to use MODE 6 (See below). This muxes SPI signals to (K1, L3, N4, L1)

You are correct - there are alternate pins for the SPI, but only SPI_CS0 is available in that configuration. (See MODE 3 & 5 below)

Table 4-11. and Table 4-12. show how to configure the 2 serial port muxes for I2S - you trade eMMC/SD for I2S on both serial ports.

    Hope this helps,
    Mark
