Hello,

After I had spent lot of time to get the virualbox on my Windows 7 connected to the Internet, I was able to carry on "Processor SDK Linux Training: Hands on with the Linux SDK". However, I have got the following problems when Configuring Remote System Explorer (RSE).

1. "Check ssh.terminals to use Secure Shell to work with terminals." doesn't exist.

2. After configuring, I tried to "connect" and I got "Failed to connect SFTP subsystem: Remote host may not have sftp-server installed : java.io.IOException: inputstream is closed".

I don't think the first one is a real problem. However the second is a serious problem simply because I get stuck there. I can't remotely access the AM335x ICE V2 board and can't debug it either.

I searched the Internet for a solution but most of solutions are irrelevant. None of answers helps. Please tell me if the sftp server is not running on the Eval board. It doesn't look like a network problem since I can ping my am335x ICE V2 board.

Please advise.

What is the SDK version you are using?

Thanks for your prompt reply.

The SDK version is ti-processor-sdk-linux-am335x-evm-03.00.00.04-Linux-x86-Install.bin or
ti-processor-sdk-linux-rt-am335x-evm-03.00.00.04-Linux-x86-Install.bin.

From the thread in your reply, it points to different threads. It seems to me that it is not a simple problem. Is there a simple solution?

Which version of the CCStudio you are using?

Can you try with ti-processor-sdk-linux-am335x-evm-02.00.02.11-Linux-x86-Install.bin? The simple solution is to use this version of the SDK.

Same problem for me, in version 3.00.00.04 there seems to be something wrong with SFTP.
For me it is working in 2.00.02.11 and also in versions before that one.
I am using filezilla to connect to the target and I has been working fine in all previous versions.

Hi Pavel,

I have installed CCS6.1.3.

For some reason, I am unable to write u-boot, Kernel and FS to SD cards using "create-sdcard.sh". There is no error message in writing but nothing is written to it. I tested the SD cards and they are fine. I think that there are bugs in the "create-sdcard.sh" script. The script is with ti-processor-sdk-linux-rt-am335x-evm-02.00.02.11-Linuxx86-Install.bin.

Can you please tell me how to partition an SD card for this purpose, i.e. how many partitions, what format for each partition, and how much space for each partition?

Try with sdcard script from ti-processor-sdk-linux-am335x-evm-02.00.02.11-Linux-x86-Install.bin

I downloaded ti-processor-sdk-linux-am335x-evm-02.00.02.11-Linux-x86-Install.bin and tried it again. Nothing has been written to an SD card. Please see the attached screen message.

Hi Pavel,

I am not familiar with scripting. sfdisk appears in two places

Should I modify both of them? By the way, the SD card is 16GB Kingston micro SD card. Do those changes apply to 16GB cards as well?

After I modified the script according to the thread you pointed to, I got the following.

"Checking that no-one is using this disk right now ... FAILED

This disk is currently in use - repartitioning is probably a bad idea.
Umount all file systems, and swapoff all swap partitions on this disk.
Use the --no-reread flag to suppress this check."

I don't know why it is so difficult to write an SD card.

Anyway, I need your further help.

What is your host OS? Do you use Ubuntu 16.04?

Hi Pavel,

Yes, my host OS is Windows 7 and Guest OS is Ubuntu 16.4 as recommended by TI.

The problem is that Ubuntu 16 is using newer version of fdisk than the script from PSDK2 is based. Please examine the create-sdcard.sh script from PSDK3, where Ubuntu 16 fdisk is handled properly:

ti-processor-sdk-linux-am335x-evm-03.00.00.04/bin/create-sdcard.sh

You can use the script from PSDK3 with PSDK2.

Hi Pavel,

After failures to directly write to an SD for hours, I changed to use the Windows Image Writer to write am335x-evm-linux-02.00.02.11.img to the SD card. It wrote successfully. The files and folders are correct and can be seen in Linux OS. However, it is very bad news that the AM335X ICE V2 can't boot from the SD card while it can boot from the SD card loaded with the latest am335x-evm-03.00.00.04.

Basically, nothing works after a few days of work. In my impression, the Linux SDK for AM335x is too young to employ. It is actually a dead loop. Please help me through this pain.

Hi Pavel,

My original problem was "Failed to connect SFTP subsystem: Remote host may not have sftp-server installed : java.io.IOException: inputstream is closed". I followed your advice and installed ti-processor-sdk-linux-am335x-evm-02.00.02.11. I had difficulties to write it to an SD card. Then I changed to use the Windows Image Writer to write the image to an SD card successfully. I inserted the new SD card into the AM335x ICE V2. Unfortunately, the boot can't boot from the SD card. My original problem hasn't been resolved and more problems have occurred.

As you know, when the board can't boot from the SD card, I can't go any further, Therefore, nothing can be done.

Is everything clear?

What is AM335x ICE V2?

ti-processor-sdk-linux-am335x-evm-02.00.02.11 can be used for AM335x EVM, AM335x Starter Kit and Beaglebone Black.

Also, I received info from the PSDK team. There are working on the issue with the PSDK3 sftp-server, and we are targeting to get it fixed for the next version of the PSDK 3.1. The new PSDK 3.1 release should be available from ti.com by the middle of October.

It is called AM3359 Industrial Communications Engine and its part number is TMDSICE3359.

Looks like AM3359 ICE is supported by the linux-rt sdk:

Are you able to create SD card and boot that board from ti-processor-sdk-linux-rt-am335x-evm-03.00.00.04-Linux-x86-Install.bin? What about ti-processor-sdk-linux-rt-am335x-evm-02.00.02.11-Linux-x86-Install.bin?

Hi Pavel,

I can produce SD card and boot that board from ti-processor-sdk-linux-rt-am335x-evm-03.00.00.04-Linux-x86-Install.bin. However, it failed to connect SFTP subsystem.

I am unable to write ti-processor-sdk-linux-rt-am335x-evm-02.00.02.11-Linux-x86 to an SD card. I will use the Windows Image Writer and have a go.

I found that AM3359 ICE support was added in the latest PSDK RT 03.00.00.04, see the release notes:

Thank you very much for your update.

However, none of them you mentioned can resolve my original issue, i.e. "Reply to RE: Failed to connect SFTP subsystem: Remote host may not have sftp-server installed". I hope that I can a direct answer to my problem soon because I can't go any further for TI Linux SDK stuff.

Bailin,

That bug will be fixed in the next PSDK RT 3.1. If you can not wait till then, you can try to fix it yourself or port ICE support to PSDK 2, where sftp-server is working fine.

As you know, I have tried linux-02.00.02.11and linux-02.00.02.11-rt. The Am335x ICE V2 can't boot from an SD card loaded with one of them. Do you mean something else?

Well it doesn't include AM335x ICE /V2.

However, earlier you instructed me to have a go using linux-02.00.02.11 or linux-02.00.02.11-rt on my AM335x ICE V2 board. Now you are telling me that linux-02.00.02.11and/or linux-02.00.02.11-rt doesn't support AM335x ICE V2. I don't know what I should say.

Anyway, as you said that I should add AM335x ICE V2 support to linux-02.00.02.11and/or linux-02.00.02.11-rt , please tell me how. Have you or anybody else tried or tested it successfully? I don't want to get into a dead loop.

Hi Pavel,

Basically, from the above threads, there may be one or two people out there in the community porting linux-02.00.02.11 or linux-02.00.02.11-rt to AM335x ICE. This hasn't been done by TI officially. There is no document, either. Therefore, it is much beyond my job spec. I have to wait for the new release. Please tell me the time schedule of next release.

Hi Mre,

I was told by TI that the current release of the Linux SDK didn't support sftp for AM3359 ICE V2. The next release of the Linux SDK in October will support the sftp feature for AM3359 ICE V2. In the meantime, I didn't want to wait and I purchased a BeagleBone Black eval board which has the sftp feature provided by the current release or the TI Linux SDK.
