Hi,
while trying to debug Concerto examples I get the following error message:
In Help/Code Composer Licensing Information I read:
I am using the Concerto card connected to the internal XDS100. Unfortunately the ccsv5.1 did not include the board configuration files for the concerto, so I had to import the files from ccsv4.2.
How do I get the debugger working?
Thnx -
Jan
Hi Jan,
CCSv5 does take a different license, however does include for some kits a bundle license for use with the XDS100. I would try this first. Select to use the "free limited license" when installing CCS.
Alternatively you can get a v5 license in the following ways
- purchase
- 30 day trial
- if your subscription for you v4 license is still running, by upgrade. You may have recieved an email with these instructions
Product Description: CCSTUDIO Code Composer Studio IDE - Platinum Floating 3 User Pack (F01)
New Version Available: v5.1
· Go to www.ti.com/myregisteredsoftware
· Find your row for TMDSCCS-ALLF03-v4.0
· Click MANAGE and then click UPGRADE – GET NEW LICENSE
· Click E-mail license - you will receive two (2) emails: Instructions and License File with attachment (.lic)
· You MUST follow these instructions to save this new License File (.lic) before you can use your upgraded version 5.1
What’s new: This release will contain a significant number of improvements over CCSv4, including a simplified user interface, faster debug launch time, Linux support and many other features. For more information on CCSv5 please visit the TI CCS wiki.
If you have any questions, please contact ccs_subscriptions@list.ti.com
I hope this helps. Please keep us informed.
Best Regards,
Lisa
Hi Lisa,
I was using a code limited license for ccsv4. CCSv4 was deinstalled. There are no licenses available at my TI account. For ccsv5.1 I am using a free license with xds100 jtag emulators (on board). This is what the available TI_CCS_Free_License.lic reads:

Again: I try to use the free license for evaluating Concerto.

Hi Jan,
for the C2000 there is no more code size limited version in v5. For the C2000 this has been switched to the "Free limited License" on the XDS100. It was put together with the bundle licenses.
However this type of license should support concerto, but I will indeed verify for you.
What license option did you select when installing CCSv5? Did you try to point it to your old license file? Did you try the upgrade tab as suggested in your screenshot?
I will get back to you as soon as I have a 100% answer for you on the concerto family.
Best Regards,
Lisa
Hi Lisa,
thanks for your reply.
I was selecting free license and did not referr to the old license from ccsv4.
I think this is a problem with the installation and the licenses get mixed up.

Hi Jan,
what options did you choose when installing CCSv5? (Ie what board support packages) I just opened my installation and found the concerto devices under the xds100v3. Do you have the control suite software installed?
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling v5?
Best Regards,
Lisa
Hi Lisa,
when I try with xds100v3 I get an error testing configuration. I read a lot in the forums about the debugger and they all say it's xds100v2. I did uninstall ccsv5.1 and reinstall. No change.
I have the Concerto Control Card https://estore.ti.com/Product3.aspx?ProductId=2497.
The control suite is installed after some difficulties.
I think I should try unistalling again. But there seem to be some files and folders that will not delete (maybe even from ccsv4.2). Are there registry setting or any variables that should be deleted manually?

Jan
HI Jan,
ok, yes please try uninstalling CCS totally and starting from the beginning and keep us informed. There is a hidden file called licenselocation.txt that you may have or find you should delete, but really just clean out and delete ccs installation directories etc.
Keep us informed and sorry using your board has had this inconvenience. I do not believe the control suite installation directory is wrong using the default.
Best Regards,
Lisa
The <licenselocation.txt> file holds the location of licenses in a CCS installation. Its location varies depending on the version:
This text file contains a single location entry per line, and they are
searched in order they appear (first line takes precedence over
subsequent lines).
Location entries are one of the following:
It is possible to specify the license locations using environment variables. If these environment variables exist, they take precedence over the licenses specified in <licenselocation.txt> or located at the ccsv4\DebugServer\license or ccsv5\ccs_base\DebugServer\license folders.
Two environment variables can be set:
Locations are specified similar to the entries of <licenselocation.txt> but with complete paths to the location of license files. On Windows, multiple entries are separated by a semicolon (;).
Lisa,
I unistalled ccsv5.1 again. I cleaned up the folders under C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\.TI. There where no environment variables. Even if no license file is specified, I get the same error message. And two locations are listed as system default where one is in the installation directory (...ccsv5\ccs_base\DebugServer\license) and the other beeing C:\ti\license. The technical information for the error is the following:
The path c:\ti\license does not exist. Even if I create this folder, insert the license file and the licenselocation.txt pointing at C:\ti\license ccs still says, the license file is only valid for ccsv4. The same happens with path under ...DebugServer. I tried xds100v3 as well - still the same.
But the error only occurs, when I start debugging. I can build etc. What am I missing?

Jan
Hi Jan,
Can you please confirm again what license options you selected during installation.
The error message seems to indicate two things
- it is looking for a license server ... do you have a flexlm server installed?
- it is trying to read a v4 license.
To use the free limited license you should be able to simply choose to use this option the first time CCS is run. I have passed this thread over to a couple colleagues for further thoughts on what we can check/do here.
Best Regards,
Lisa
Hi Lisa,
when installing I selected "Free License". This is generating a folder under ..users/../AppData/Local/.TI/(random number)/0 with licenslocation.txt and the TI_CCS_FREE_License.lic like the one in a former post. There is indeed a license server running for LabView. But: there is no license server specified in ccs. How do I find out where to specify that there is no license server for ccs? Even if I kill the process the error occurs.

Jan
Lisa,
I did the following: I renamed the FNPLicensingServices.exe in :\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Macrovision Shared\FLEXnet Publisher so the service is not stated during startup of ccsv5.1. Now I can access the debugger (loading program, running etc.). I hope no other software is using the FNP..
Now the only thing is to get the LED flashing in the example program :D

Hi Jan,
glad to hear you seem to have found a work around. We had a look through your thread and it is also not clear to us what might be causing the behaviour. We will send any further feedback should we think of any but glad you are now on your way with the license. The exe you renamed seems to be tied to flexnet licensing but particularly adobe acrobat.
Best regards,
Lisa
Hi Lisa,
the FlexNet service belongs to TI as it is stated in the fnp_registrations.xml:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<Activation_Service_Users>
<Publishers>
<Publisher>
<Name>Texas Instruments Inc.</Name>
<Products>
<Product>Code Composer Studio</Product>
</Products>
</Publisher>
</Publishers>
</Activation_Service_Users>
Could this be part of an early ccsv4 install?

Jan
Hi Jan,
yeah we are not sure ourselves what happened. CCS uses FlexNET for licensing, but that .exe you refered to, as best I can tell comes from Macromedia-adobe who also use FlexNET.
Anyhow, glad you got up and running.
Cheers,
Lisa
