Code Composer 5.3/5.5 Issues Linux Mint 16

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CCSTUDIO

I purchased a License for CCSV5. Unfortunately I am having trouble running it on Linux Mint 16. The install went well, but when I open a properties dialog or any dialog and press cancel, the entire APP exits.

I downloaded CCSV6, and the problem does not occur, but my license is not valid for this version.

What are my options?

  • Here are some of the crashes/logs experienced with V5.3

    0246.hs_err_pid28269.log.zip

  • Jim,

    A couple of questions:

Were you previously using this CCS version on this Linux distro and CCS recently stopped working?

Do you need to use a specific CCS version?

  • I have two node locked licences. This current problem is a new install.

I have an older node locked license on a  machine running UBUNTU 12.04 and CCSV5. This has been working fine.

We recently purchased another license to run on my desktop running Linux Mint 16. This is where the problems started.

I do not have a need for any version of CCS, providing it works on the two machines targeted.

  • Jim how expired is your subscription?  i.e. if you go to www.ti.com/myregisteredsoftware when does it say it expired?

I Jim, I am using Mint 16 64 bit, before to install version 6.0GA I tested beta release and release 5.5GA.

After fixing all issue I encountered with version 6.0 I am now able to work fine also on version 5.5. too.

     About licencing try this:

(I am still evaluating ccstudio on free I plan to buy near november)

About installation on Mint 16 I documented my struggle to help others, see if this can help:

and better can this one if you get running

I am supposing something fail on library installation the first time, so from experience try uninstall version 5, delete folder too then reinstall from scratch, maybe it work also for you.

  • I tried that too.

I think it has something to do with GTK desktop theme. I need to run some focused experiments, to isolate it, but all of the crash logs have GTK in the trace.

I am using CCSv6 with an evaluation license in the short term. I ran it on a VM prior to purchasing and it worked OK.

  • Roberto,

Thanks for the tips. My issue is really bizarre. The tool functions perfectly until you cancel a dialog, or exit a tab. If you do that the application terminates.

I REALLY think it has something to to with GTK theme, but cannot be sure. I need CCS to do my day time job, and to stop the bleeding I am using CCSV6 with eval license. I already wasted more time than I wanted to getting this functional.

Oddly, I tried CCSV5 on a virtual machine, running Linux Mint 16 without ANY issues.

I will background the isolation efforts, and keep this thread updated.

Hi Jim, I abandoned Ubuntu in favour of MINT due to its more clean and simple interface, I don't like Unity at all nor Plasma resembling windows interface just launched a long time before they went from M$$$$.... I don't like have a preselected interface like winZ user prefer have another choose what they have to do....

This distribution is more clean but sometimes suffer from automated update so library and some tools remain obsoleted in a while.

I discovered VM USB was no more working due I was one year off last version, I updated by hand then VM is working well...

Same I suffered from Library alignment, the worst I dislike in Linux I hate in Windows and I love in BSD for old support policy. Mint disable again some source from Ubuntu community and you need restore PPA link  by hand.

Anyway this platform is better than new Ubuntu resembling the old better release 10.04 and I love it rather than having glowing graph or distracting windows appearing in middle of your work..

We probably need link these issue to developing community to get help clean on new releases.

Anyway forever thank Johns for great support.
