Hi, can anyone help me out in a design of boost converter. the input voltage is 12-13.5 volts as output is 180 volts maximum output current is 150mA here i have achieved those but the problem is mosfet. The mosfet i am using SIHB11N80E which is greater specs. the design recommends Vds 250 volts and current 3 Amps but it is having 850 and 8 amps respectively. The mosfet is getting too hot when boost converter is on load either load is low or high. Help me please thanks is advance.Boost 180 @ 150 mA.pdf

Hi Ashwani,

The WEBENCH tool is using an ideal FET as it could not find any FETs in the database that meet the thermal requirement for your design conditions. I will let the product expert know and they might have some suggestions on an alternate FET.

Hi Ashwani,

Do you need isolation for the application? If not take a look at PMP20212.

This concept of stacking a charge pump on the output of the boost converter is good for high step up ratio designs, similar to this application.

Thanks a lot please give me the idea to choose the fet or what should be the solution so that i can solve this problem.

Hi Ashwani,

The advantage to add the charge pump allows you to use lower voltage rated MOSFET, also it does not require a too large duty cycle to achieve your high output voltage regulation.
